Often we hear about laws that don’t make a lot of sense to us. We hear about the things you are allowed to do and then when we hear about things that you are not allowed to do we often wonder why because they are basically the same thing, or simply do not make sense. Some of the laws we see is the fact that you only have to be 18 to purchase a gun in many areas of the United States but you have to be 21 to drink a beer. Or in some areas you have to be 25 to rent a car but you can fight in a war at 18 years old. We see conflicts like this often and we see it in most areas concerning gambling.

Many people love to play the slot machines or poker, but in many areas it is simply not allowed. But yet, other types of wagering are allowed. People are allowed to play the lottery, bet on horse racing (or worse yet, dog racing), and even bingo and keno. When looking at it from a common sense aspect, there doesn’t seem to be any. There are all kinds of things that we don’t understand. It makes us wonder if the new online casino proposals will be treated the same way. Will they allow poker and not slot machines? It just doesn’t make sense, especially in terms of online gambling where there are no neighborhoods to consider that may see an increase in crime.

To say that there is no common sense in government is not really saying the correct thing, however. The truth is that the lack of common sense comes from too many people trying to appease others. Compromise is what is happening but sometimes these compromises don’t always make perfect sense. It is just one of those things that people in America deal with on a daily basis. To what end the gaming industry is going to grow is all dependent upon what the government wants and how effective the lobbyists are. It would be nice to say that it is dependent upon what the people want. Which one will really happen is all up in the air right now.

Of course, unless you are someone like Steve Jobs, no one person can change the world but we can make sure that our laws make sense. Doing so with all of these new gambling bills will allow everyone the opportunity to enjoy the gaming experience and play whatever game they want. Yes, this is an interesting time for the casino world and the fallout of all the lobbying is yet to be seen. In the end, there will hopefully be a big new world opening up for everyone involved from the owners right down to the players.
